Crafting Elegance

Styling Your Winter Wedding Day or Vow Renewal

Excitement, anticipation, joy. Stepping into the spotlight to honor the most cherished relationship of your life, be it on your wedding day or during a vow renewal ceremony, evokes a myriad of emotions. The luckiest among us experience an inner peace that the person by your side will remain your steadfast partner throughout a lifetime. It's not every day that one gets to immerse themselves in a public celebration of love, and that is why we place such an importance on the day.

Every choice in the way to celebrate your relationship is a reflection of the uniqueness of the love itself; choosing to celebrate in the winter provides a landscape that encourages the warmth of close and intimate affection. Here, we delve into two distinct yet equally charming looks, meticulously curated by a collaborative effort. These looks capture the essence of two beautiful aspects of love: the youthful, enthusiastic joy of a fairy-tale wedding and the timeless, aged elegance of a vow renewal ceremony. Both equally as enchanting as the other, yet vastly different in style and expression.

Gown and Coiffure

The gown you choose on your wedding day is a personal reflection of how you feel to most beautifully present yourself. Alongside the gown, we also look at the hair and makeup as they go hand in hand in perfecting the day’s style. “Not only can [hair and makeup] enhance the bride’s natural beauty and ensure flawless photos, the perfect look can help convey a wedding’s theme and emphasize the key points of interest of the wedding gown.” Says Crystal Madril, Boise salon owner.

“For a fairy-tale wedding, we envision a flowing, ethereal gown, to act as a symbol of youthful elegance and grace.” Says local wedding gown stylist, Kenzi. “For that look, we chose a ball gown with an off-the-shoulder bishop sleeve.” The sleeves not only serve as an additional layer to the gown but bring a whimsical element to complete a winter ensemble. This gown also showcases intricate floral work, adding dimension and flow. To complement the wedding gown, the hair and makeup team composed a flowing organic style, with tresses that are softly swept from the face.

The vow renewal took a different consideration in the way that style reflects the love and relationship. As vow renewals are a continuing commitment and celebration of a lasting endearment, the gown chosen is a sheath style dress with a long train. This is reflective of the everlasting and strong love that binds two people.

The gown is accompanied by a cool-toned fur shawl doubling as both warmth and chic in the winter time. The updo stayed on point with the sheath dress by using a french chignon. “The eternal simplicity and classic lines make it a desirable look for a modern wedding,” says Madril.

Adornment & Flowers

Jewelry worn during weddings can play such a beautiful role in the course of life. Each accessory becomes an heirloom, carrying the promise of passing down your unique love story through generations.

Dreamy weddings call for equally dreamy jewelry. “For this look, we styled the bride with antique pieces that inspire nostalgia and timelessness,” says Copper Canary’s lead designer, Allie. “Alongside the 1920s engagement ring, we chose an Art Nouveau pendant necklace, fine detailed earrings circa late 1800s, and antique rings.” These pieces all come together with a final statement headpiece - a handmade 1800s crown made of trigold flowers, leaves and acorns, completing this charmed look.

“For the vow renewal, we took a different, modern approach,” says Allie. “Since her hair was up, we chose large, bold tanzanite earrings that doubled as her something blue. This and the eye-catching floral diamond necklace draw attention to her face.” The other items chosen were delicate opal and diamond bracelets as well as a mix of bold and minimalist rings. This mix represents the strength of a union over the course of a partnership.

Incorporating color into a winter celebration can easily be done through choosing blooms that resonate with the occasion. Floral accents create a freshness and dimension. “For both of these occasions we chose flowers that are pink and red to symbolize love, however the way we styled the bouquets is unique to each occasion,” says florist Lindsay Horst.

For the dreamy look, a sprawling bouquet with big, wispy flowers was designed to represent a long future ahead with lots of life. The vow renewal took a more sleek approach with a bouquet of roses neatly put together, creating a bespoke elegance. “I always recommend sourcing your flowers locally,” says Horst. “It adds a seasonally unique layer to the occasion that creates more intimacy around the celebration.”

The Final Touches

Overall, both styles reflect the intimacy and meaning behind each event. In all aspects, the young love wedding remained flowy, delicate, and whimsical. The vow renewal is steadfast in its classic and refined appearance. As you embark on this beautiful journey, may your love story be as stunning and enduring as the styles you choose to embrace.
